Latiefa Jacobs (Stellenbosch University, South Africa)

"Healing through Writing: Community-Led Participatory Practices and the Role of Community Voices in Qualitative Research"

Introductory remarks by Prof. Lynn Hendricks (Stellenbosch University)

Drawing on community initiatives in South Africa’s Western Cape, Latiefa Jacobs will explore how reflective writing, storytelling and creative expression can enable women and young people to articulate experiences of social inequality, belonging and care. Particular attention will be given to The Letters of Care, a participatory letter-writing approach. The presentation will address methodological and ethical questions concerning participant agency, emotional safety and the use of personal narratives, inviting us to reflect on how communities can shape research as knowledge holders and partners.

The talk and discussion will be held in English. Everyone interested is welcome, including students and guests.
